"Creativity at the forefront - The Brancusi Trio has recorded George Enescu’s recently-discovered G minor piano trio. This piece of work from his early years has the stylistic features of the compositions leading from Dvorak, Brahms and Faure to the conservatoria in Vienne and Paris, but clearly rooted in the German High Romance. It is an interesting composition with a lot of variety and lyric that is nonetheless heavily influenced by his predecessors. The next piece, the short Serenade Iointaine takes us this time to the French sphere of influence. Like the first one, it has a memorable melody that’s well-executed. The final piano trio in A minor, which was brought to light in 1965, brings us to Enescu’s core- a discernibly expressive, late Romantic mix of styles. De lack of coordination between the content of the material and the length of the production leads to some confusion; strong ideas do not last very long in comparison to the less interesting ones. Furthermore, the material is not granted the opportunity to fully emerge and come into its own. There is, however, no doubt that ingenuity was the composer’s strength. " Le festival d’été des « International Holland Music Sessions » a commencé hier à Bergen à sa vingt-troisième édition. Tous les ans, environ cent vingt jeunes musiciens venus du monde entier y suivent des master-classes et donnent des concerts qui leur offrent ainsi l’expérience du podium. Ce soutien a permis à de nombreux musiciens de faire carrière, comme les Néerlandais Lisa Ferschtman et Hannes Minnaar. A l’étranger aussi d’anciens participants font parler d’eux. Comme le trio roumano/arménien Brancusi qui avec la violoniste Satenik Khourdoian et la violoncelliste Laura Buruiana est composé pour les deux tiers d’anciens de Bergen. Avec la pianiste Mara Dobresco elles ont enregistré un merveilleux cd avec la musique de leur compatriote George Enescu. Le premier morceau est tout de suite une grande surprise : c’est le premier enregistrement sur cd de son trio en sol mineur qu’on pensait perdu. C’est une œuvre de jeunesse de 1897, alors qu’il était encore étudiant. Il y fête manifestement l’atmosphère de l’époque prospère des Balkans. C’est du beau romantisme tardif que les trois musiciennes jouent avec goût et entrain. La Sérénade Lointaine de 1903 aussi vient d’être retrouvée récemment. Un merveilleux et délicieux morceau de circonstance au caractère roumain qui laisse percevoir l’influence de son professeur Fauré. Le trio en la mineur fit sont apparition déjà en 1965 et est manifestement une œuvre plus tardive qui porte totalement son empreinte : expressive et originale, exécutée par trois instruments mélodieux. C’est à juste titre que le cd a reçu des louanges internationales."

"...The players of the excellent Brancusi Trio treat the score as highly charged Brahms, with the piano of Mara Dobresco driving the outer movements forward as if the work`s origins were symphonic. The A minor Trio comes from much later in Enescu`slife and here the Brancusi Trio`s performance succinctly captures the esoteric qualities of the composer`s later works, with wide mood swings flowing so easily that they do not disrupt the overall shape of each movement.... This is a very well recorded and highly desiracle disc, completed by the innocent charm of the little Serenade lointaine"

".....The Trio Brancusi is an all-female ensemble, and they can boast themselves as well as a truly virtuoso ensemble. They fly through this very difficult music with great aplomb and bravura, articulating the rather vicious string and piano passages with amazing ease and dexterity. All three women being Romanian have an inborn and natural instinct for Enescu’s style and his incorporation of the Romanian folk elements. There could not possibly be better ambassadors for this music than the Trio Brancusi. Ms. Khourdoïan’s often alarming virtuosity on the violin is wonderfully thrilling. Ms. Dobresco’s brilliance on the piano is equally dazzling, not only in the bravura passages, but in the nostalgic vocal lines as well. Ms. Buruiana’s cello voicing captures the profound resonance of a deep contralto. It is perhaps her sound throughout that gives the ensemble its unique color and distinctive sonority.
There are many fine reasons to recommend this recording, but the best selling points are the facts that the music is completely unfamiliar and immediately captivating, enjoyable, and memorable. The recorded sound is unusually warm and “close”, and the performances by Trio Brancusi are a celebration of this music. George Enescu is a composer you need to acquaint yourself with, and this recording is an excellent introduction".

Il en résulte un véritable ouvrage de maître. La brève Sérénade lointaine est une page séduisante composée à Londres en 1903 à l’occasion d’une visite du couple royal de Roumanie. Quant au trio en la mineur de 1916, il montre Enesco aux prises avec la musique populaire roumaine, comme dans la fameuse sonate piano-violon n°3 de 1926. Ses trois mouvements sont rhapsodiques, avec des mélodies et des sonorités des plus personnelles. De deux ans postérieur à celui de Ravel, ce trio, déjà enregistré en Roumanie, a été redécouvert en 1957 seulement, et ce n’est qu’en 1997 qu’a pu être établie une version définitive. Il est hors de doute qu’avec le présent CD, nous tenons une des plus précieuses réalisations consacrées ces derniers temps à l’auteur d’Oedipe".
